Concordia University Chicago Women’s Soccer team came into the new month with a new mindset. Throughout August and September, CUC Women’s Soccer team either tied or lost their first nine games. But with October starting, CUC Women’s Soccer team pulled out of their game with a 4-0 blowout.
On Tuesday, October 1st, 2019, the CUC Cougars competed against the Rockford University Regents. The first half of the game gave the Cougars an immense amount of hope. Their first goal, within five minutes of kickoff, was the result of a corner kick. After a celebration by the Cougars, CUC was quiet for fifteen minutes, with the ball being controlled back and forth between Rockford and CUC. Right before the twenty-minute mark, Gabriella Wagoner dribbled around the Rockford defense, shot and scored. Wagoner celebrated her first goal for the 2019 season. Another twenty minutes went by and the Cougars continued to compete for the win. Minutes before halftime, the Cougars made their third goal, with the Regents still at zero goals. Meghan Vasseur, from the Cougars, passed the ball to Kate Sullivan, who shot and scored the third goal for CUC. Sullivan also celebrated her first goal of the season. Going into halftime, the Cougars were up 3-0.
Coming back into the second half, the Regents were eager to play harder and the Cougars were ready to keep playing. Minutes after the second half began, Cecilia Kochanek passed the ball to Samantha Wozniak, who scored the Cougars’ fourth goal of the game. Wozniak also celebrated her first goal of the season. The rest of the game was balanced between CUC and Rockford, but ultimately, nobody scored.
