2/14/19 – Valentine’s Day may have come to pass, but there was no love for the Concordia University Chicago Cougars mens’ basketball game as they fell to the Edgewood College Eagles by a score of 71-90. Despite leading in steals, the Cougars’ shooting did not click, and the Eagles’ big men locked down rebounding, providing them with a multitude of second chance points.
The Eagles had the command over the game throughout the entirety of the first half. Missed shots combined with missed rebounds dug the Cougars into a hole that seemed too deep to climb out of. In fact, the Cougars were only able to land one shot from beyond the arch, and were only shooting a total of 35 percent at halftime. All of this gave the Eagles a hearty 47-34 lead to start off the second half, which would ultimately be more of the same.
The halftime pep talk must have sparked something in the Cougars as they came onto the court looking to take control. Cougar sophomore Jalen Meeks led the team in the comeback rally, finishing with 19 points, and helping the Cougars to bring the game to a nailbiting 50-56, but the Eagles would not let them get any closer. The air raid began, and the Eagles pulled away to a 19 point lead to wrap the game up at 90-71. Come out to support the Cougars at their final home game, and final game of the season, on February 16th as they hope to end the season with a win over Aurora University.
