Chicago Dance Month is a month all about allowing the community to access intimate rehearsals and experience dance maker’s creative processes.
“It was important to continue to illuminate the legacy of dance that happens in Chicago, but not just dance that happens on the stage, dance happens everywhere.” Baraka de Soleil said, Community Engagement Manager for Audience Architects.
“Making A Difference Dancing Rhythms, we’re basically, we’re a tap organization, but a deeper purpose is using the dance to make a difference in underserved, communities, much like the one I came from. What tap did for me I try to recipocate and we try to do for other young dancers”, said Bril Barrett, founder of M.A.D.D.
This month long event is put on by Audience Architects, an organization aiming to build and engage the community by advocating for Chicago dance.
“Audience Architects is a service organization for dance and we are celebrating and highlighting dance through out the city of Chicago all month long. The entire month of April there are classes, workshops, special events, and discount tickets. With Chicago Dance Month we really wanted to highlight all the different activity taking place around the city and really encourage audience members to go to their own neighborhoods and discover some of the things that are happening. It’s about going to venues where dance is held and where dance takes place in all of our different, wonderful Chicago neighborhoods and visiting the artists and the schools and studios where they study and create fabulous work.” Heather Harley, Executive Director for Audience Architects.
