This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Chicago Improv Festival (CIF). The event, which runs from March 27th through April 2nd, features countless acts throughout the improv comedy community. Headlined by Dan Harmon (Creator of Community) and Scott Adsit (Second City Alum and featured in 30 Rock and Big Hero 6), the festival also includes workshops hosted by the pair and a live version of Harmon’s podcast on April 1.
Concordia University’s own The Unprofessionals had the opportunity to participate during the festival’s College Night, hosted on March 28th. Various colleges from the Chicagoland area were also welcome, including Out Da Box from Northwestern, Joke Zero from Lake Forest Community College, and Nixon’s Neverland from DePaul University.
While The Unprofessionals regularly have the opportunity to perform with other colleges for College Improv Night at The Playground theater, CIF offered a new experience for the group. Prior to their 8pm performance at Stage 773, The Unprofessionals had the opportunity to watch three schools perform first. Their coach, director of College Improv Night and a professor at Concordia David Knoell always advised his team to watch other performances to learn, improve, and adapts their techniques. This night was the time to do just that.
