Vietnam

I recently had the privilege to interview Tån Héin and ask her questions about her home country Vietnam. I was very excited to learn about her country because I think that Asia is an amazing place, and I did not know much about where she is from.

Vietnam, as you have read above, is located in Asia. It shares a land border with China to the North, and Laos to the West. But what is it that Vietnam is known for?

Vietnam is known for its agriculture, it is among the countries which export the largest amount of rice in the world. Ha Long Bay which is located in Quang Ninh Province was one of the world seven wonders.

“Vietnam is known for its agriculture, it is among the countries which export the largest amounts of rice in the world. Ha Long Bay which is located in Quang Ninh Province, and was one of the world’s seven wonders.”

I was amazed to learn that her country featured one of the seven wonders of the world. I would have never known unless told otherwise. She also mentioned that they have the largest natural cave in the world. The name of the cave that she mentioned is Son Doong Cave. There seem to be many activities that you can do in Vietnam. The land offers water activities such as swimming, boating, canoeing and much more. In addition, the food is supposed to be amazing!

“Pho is our tradition food so it’s a must. Banh xeo, which is a Vietnamese crispy pancake, is also very delicious. It is served with fresh lettuce, pickle, mint, cilantro and fish sauce. We have a variety of noodle soups distinctive to different regions. Our “banh mi”, french bread with different types of meat, is also one of our delicacies. I can go on and on with this but the ones that I have already mentioned are at the top of the must-eat list.”

Are you hungry yet? They are able to use fresh fish because of their access to the water. It also should be known that they are important in trade shipping because the country of Vietnam is easy to access thanks to the land being right on the water.

My next question for Héin was what made her want to come to Concordia to continue her studies.

Her answer ?

“I wanted to experience the different lifestyle and culture in a developed country. I am an English as a Second Language teacher so I wanted to participate in the graduate program offered at CUC to improve my teaching practice and further benefit my future students.”

The way she answered is how we should start living. We should expose ourselves to the different cultures out there in the world and learn more about the people as well. Too many of us let the time go by where we are not able to explore the world, or some have little to no interest in exploring it. I truly believe that people should start taking opportunities when they can so they can learn about different cultures and we can start to grow together!

I want to thank Tån for allowing me to write about her country, and I hope what you have read makes you want to explore it as much as I do, or perhaps read up on Vietnam some more!
