As the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) softball season ended abruptly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is easy to look back on it and wonder what it could have been.
As we look back on it, there are two players that truly shaped this team into what it has become over the past four years. One of these amazing players is Kristen Landon. If you have ever been to a CUC softball game, you have most definitely heard the “Kristen, Kristen Landon” cheer. That is just one small piece of Kristen’s legacy at Concordia.
Kristen Landon was a four-year team member that put her heart and soul into the game. She was a team leader on and off the field. During her final two years on the team, Landon was able to be a member of the team panel, where she was able to truly show off her leadership abilities.
Landon played second base for the lady Cougars, diving for every ball and truly showing her love for this game. Landon was able to help the team at the plate as well, her career-high batting average being .312 in 2018. Not only will Landon’s skills be remembered, but her sense of humor and compassion will as well. Landon made a huge impact on the CUC softball program and that will always be remembered. She was an essential role model for the younger players. Landon put her heart into everything she did, including her position as Marketing and Design Coordinator on CUC SAAC, as well as her participation in Cougar Tank. Landon will graduate in May with her degree in business management and marketing. The Cougar softball team wishes Landon the best. Kristen Landon will always be our “Lucky 7”.
