On October 22nd, the Gaming Club and Art Club collaborated to test out a new dueling card game: Shattered Arena. The two clubs gathered in the art lab in the basement of Kretzmann.
Members of each club learned how to play the game by dueling each other with designed decks. Art Club brought coloring pages and Gaming Club brought several different board games.
The lead artist and designer of Shattered Arena is Visiting Assistant Professor of Art: Scott Cenkar. There were four different decks set up with Shattered Arena designed playmats and dice. Cenkar says these are the only decks printed, but he has “up to 400 cards in progress on Excel.”
Shattered Arena is a two to four player tactical card game where you take on the role of a captive fighter in an arena. Players are put under control of a group called the Tyrants. Players can duel their opponents with a customizable deck. Each deck has weapons, armor, magic, combat techniques, and attributes. The attributes are strength, agility, arcane, endurance and appeal.
There are also different status ailments that could affect the player: poison, berserk, fear, and exhaustion.
“Every exchange between fighters is strategic and intimately detailed, creating an unfolding cinematic dueling experience. Discover the strategies that lead you to victory or meet your end before a jeering crowd,” said Cenkar.
