2/9/19 – Hoping to add to the tally of points for the Cougars in the River Forest Rivalry Cup, the Concordia University Chicago womens’ basketball team headed down the street to take on the Dominican University Stars. It would prove that favor was not on their side; the women suffered one of their toughest shooting days of the season. Due to this, the Stars were able to snatch the win away with a score of 62-51.
Things started off heated, as the lead would switch hands multiple times in the first minutes. The Cougars were able to eventually secure a 16-14 lead, but that would be the last time they held that lead, as the Stars would punish them for every missed shot with a bucket of their own. With both teams headed to the locker room at half, the Stars sat comfortably with a 24-18 lead over the Cougars.
The Cougars seemed to figure out some of their shooting issues during halftime because they came out swinging to start the second half. In the third quarter alone, they outscored their first half total, and the women would not stop there. At the start of the fourth quarter, the Cougars were only down by 3 (points) to the Stars. Unfortunately, the magic of the third (quarter) dried up, and the women found themselves missing once again. When the final buzzer finally rang out, the scoreboard showed a 62-51 victory for the Dominican Stars.
Support the women this upcoming Wednesday as the Benedictine University Eagles fly in to try and shut down the Cougars. Concordia University Chicago will also have a celebration for National Girls and Women in Sports Day, and they will honor all of the womens’ teams.
