2/9/19 – In a battle for the River Forest Rivalry Cup, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars brought down the hammer on the Dominican University Stars with a decisive 88-71 victory this past Saturday. Not only did this win help boost the Cougars to a 6-16 record, it also gave them a complete sweep over the Stars this season.
From the get go, the Cougars looked ready to play. The Stars did not just roll over; however, as despite a quick 10-2 deficit, they managed to fight their way back, shrinking the lead to only two points. The Cougars quickly snapped back into the swing of things, and they jumped out again, eventually having a double digit lead. Barrage after Cougar Barrage, ultimately gave them a 44-31 lead heading into the half, and giving them plenty to be hyped about in the locker room.
The second half proved to be more of the same with CUC’s defense stifling any attempts to cut that lead below 10. The ever dangerous Cougar senior Mitch Pelissier kept finding the net, as well as snagging any of the loose balls, giving him a double double on the day as he finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Cougar freshman Landen Gladney also looked ready to feast as he ended the game with a triple double as well, thanks to a solid 21 point and 10 rebound performance. The big man of the day; however, was Cougar junior Hassan Basbous. Basbous reminded all of River Forest of former Chicago Bulls player Dennis Rodman by drawing in an enormous 19 rebounds for the Cougars! He also added 10 points to the scoreboard, giving Basbous the third Cougar double double of the day.
When the final buzzer rang out, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars stood tall over the Dominican Stars, as the scoreboard read 88-71 in favor of the Cougars.
