CHICAGO – October 3, 2018 – On an unnaturally warm fall evening, the Concordia Chicago Men’s Soccer team traveled down to the Illinois Institute of Technology for a conference matchup, this past Wednesday. The CUC Cougars entered the game with a 2-2 conference record, 3-4 overall, whereas the ITT Scarlet Hawks came with their 0-4 conference record, 4-6 overall. Both teams looked to not only add to their win columns but inch their way up the NACC conference ladder.
The first half was relatively quiet, with both teams unable to connect. Early yellow cards for both IIT junior Jonathon Clarke and CUC sophomore Andres Barrigas-Castillo proved to be nothing to worry about, as neither team suffered as a direct result of either call. The Cougars managed to fire off three shots, just narrowly trailing the five shot by the Scarlet Hawks.
It was a tale of two halves for IIT; however, as they came out with a passion in the second. Outshooting the Cougars by a stunning margin of five shots, the Scarlet Hawks managed to find the back of the net after the first fifteen minutes of the half with a stunner from freshman Conner Shaw, off the assist from junior Peter Fouchet. Things would stay quiet until almost the end of the game, as IIT senior Santiago Bartolome added a tally in the score column in the 88th minute. This would prove to be the end of the scoring for both teams, as time would expire on the 2-0 Cougar loss.
The Cougars next game comes this Sunday as they wrap up homecoming weekend against Edgewood College at 12:30 pm. This game will also be the team’s senior night, so make sure to pack the stands in support of the Men in Maroon.
