After the women’s volleyball team faced losses during CIT (Concordia Invitational Tournament), the Cougars stepped up to redeem themselves in the next two matches. On Wednesday night (September 4th, 2019), Concordia University Chicago women’s volleyball team took on two matches against North Central College at 6:00 PM and North Park University at 8:00 PM in Geiseman Gymnasium.

For the first match of the game, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars took on North Central College Cardinals. The Cougars started off strong. During the match, we saw how strong the competition was between the Cougars and the Cardinals. In the first set, we saw the CUC Cougars fighting hard against North Park’s Cardinals. As the game progressed, it was going well and the Cougars were in the lead, but they lost as the Cardinals took set one 25-22. During the second set, the Cougars started to come back harder than ever by tying up the game. This tie did not stop the Cardinals from destroying the Cougars. They came back with another win, which led them to a 2-0 match. Finally, in set three, CUC Cougars took the lead with a 7-3. The Cougars were coming back hard, but with the Cardinals already having a win of 2-0, CUC was not able to come back with a win. The game was good and competitive, but North Park’s Cardinals took the win for the night.

After the rivalrous fight with North Central’s Cardinals, CUC Cougars then took on North Park University’s Vikings in Geiseman Gymnasium. Just like the Cardinals, the Vikings took on a strong scrimmage against CUC’s Cougars. Unlike the first game, CUC and North Park had five matches. The first match started off with the Cougars taking the lead. Despite the Cougars in the lead, the Vikings struck a come back to show the Cougars that they were not here to play. The Vikings fought back, and led the first set to be a tie, but Concordia’s Cougars were not going to let the Vikings take the win. The CUC Cougars came back with a lead of 25-23, bringing them home to take the win. Set two lead the Cougars to another win, as they were able to bring kills to the floor and bring the match to another 2-0 win. As the Cougars were taking the lead, they started to take a downfall in set three. The Vikings took the lead with a score of 25-14. Set four was competitive than ever. Both teams were bringing heat to the floor, but the Vikings still took the win, having the game being tied to each team having a 2-2. This lead the game to having a fifth set. In the final set, the Cougars came back stronger than ever, taking the lead 10-9. The Vikings did not want the Cougars to show them who was boss, so they kept up the pace. Closing out the game, the Cougars took the final win with a score of 15-13, giving the Cougars the win of 3-2.

Being the first win of their season, the women’s volleyball team will hit the road to bring heat to their next matches. Go Cougs!
