The Ferguson Art Gallery, on October 13, 2019, presented 25 art pieces created by Julie Sulzen. She spoke and gave insight about her collection of art at 3pm. Julie went to Concordia University Chicago, she minored in sociology and majored in art. She is a Chicagoan herself, and all her art pieces she presented had a Chicagoland feel to them. She has displayed artwork in Chicago, the Milwaukee Art Festival, and Around the Coyote Festival. She has had 30 shows since 2002. Julie also teaches art classes in her own home in Logan Square. She has a studio called Wold Airbrush Factory, which is located inside of her own house.
She is a prolific artist and began creating her 25 art pieces in April until October. Her series is called Beyond Green Fences, and every piece focuses on how nature finds its own way to revitalize change in the natural world. She likes to use a sociological perspective behind her artwork. She is a studio painter and loves to take photographs of certain images she sees in a particular moment. Once she takes a photo, she uses it as a reference for her paintings.
As she paints in her studio, she does not work on one piece at a time. She works on five paintings at a time and she writes a schedule of when she can complete her work.
Julie stated, “I love having deadlines, it keeps me on track, and I get my work done on time instead of holding off on my paintings.” Some paintings may take longer to complete than others depending on the type of paint or oil pastel she is using. Julie said she has a certain intuitive feeling when they look finished. Some artists have different techniques, but Julie said all her artwork comes from her feelings.
