Campus Youth Ministry is a Spiritual Life program on campus for students to get involved in. There are a total of four teams that are led by students, each team has around seven to twelve members. The team names are Light, Shepherd, Elohim, and Emmanuel. They meet on a weekly basis on different days and at different times. At their weekly meetings, students participate in devotions, games, and prepare for upcoming lock-ins. Lock-ins are overnight events that are once or twice a semester at various surrounding Lutheran churches. CYM members are responsible for leading devotions, worship, and games for middle school-aged children. It’s a great way to get involved with the community while growing in your faith. Lock-ins are events that CYM members continue to look forward to and make lifelong memories. CYM teams also travel off-campus for fun activities in the Oak Park and Downtown Chicago area.

According to CYM coordinator Michelle Frerking, “Weekly meetings are a time to refocus on Christ during our hectic schedules.”

We often get caught up in our studies, but it is important to take a break sometimes to destress. Joining CYM is a great option for that, and you also get to learn about Christ in fellowship with your peers. There is no requirement to join CYM and it is an amazing opportunity to develop lifelong friendships.

If you’re interested in joining CYM, please contact Michelle Frerking at crf_frerkimr@cuchicago.edu or Marcail Clark at crf_clarkmj@cuchicago.edu. If you can’t commit to a CYM team, make sure to follow Spiritual Life on Instagram at “sl_at_cuc” for other upcoming events and groups to get involved with.
