Getting to Know the World Around You (part 5)
Hungary
Another one of my favorite places that I was able to visit, and I hope someday you will too, was Budapest! Budapest is located in Hungary and it is truly magical. Although I do not know the country well enough to go into detail, my friend Bogi Palotås was happy to help me!
Palotås was actually my tour guide when I went to visit her country! She did a wonderful job and truly had each and every one of us captured by her words. Not only were we captured by her words, but we were also captured by her country.
So what is Hungary known for exactly?
“A lot. It’s known for the thermal water, it has over 1000 hot springs. It is also known for having the biggest lake in Central Europe nicknamed the Hun sea (Lake Balaton!), the Rubik’s cube, having invented many things including the ballpoint pen (named biro in Latin America after the family name Bíró, the Sziget festival (one of the largest musical/cultural events of Europe), ruin bars, and the Pulitzer prize (Joseph P was Hungarian).”
Have we caught your interest yet? Well, I sure hope so! There is so much history and culture in Hungary and you cannot help but want to learn more and ask questions. Everything is so beautiful and it is almost magical.
One of the most memorable parts of the trip was, in fact, the thermal water. Also known as the thermal baths, this place was amazing. I could not believe we were outside where it was so cold in just our swimsuits! The water temperature was amazing and you truly felt at peace. The different baths consisted of different temperatures. Ranging from cold, medium, and hot. There were also pools inside the building, saunas, and massage areas! We never wanted to leave.
What is one thing I should visit when I come to your country?
“One thing you should visit when coming to Hungary would have to be the thermal water in my opinion- since we have about 1000 springs..if you come to Bp go to a thermal bath or spa party. If you don’t like water go to a ruin bar.”
As mentioned above, I would also highly recommend checking out one of the thermal baths. It is very relaxing and wonderful to be outside with the views of the country. A lot of famous actors have taken the opportunity to check out these famous baths. I believe the last publicized actor who was there was Ryan Gosling. You can either go during the daytime or at night when they have fun music and an amazing light show. In addition, the ruin bars are pretty amazing as well. They are all within walking distance from one another and are very unique. There is a lot of fun dancing to be had at any of them.
Is there a specific food I should try?
“Goulash soup! It comes from the name gulyás, and its origin can be traced back to the ninth century. It was known as one of the most popular stews eaten by Hungarian shepherds. It is also popular in Central Europe. This is our most famous dish I guess.”
I actually tried the goulash and fell in love with it. It was filled with different vegetables and meat. They served bread on the side which you were to dip in the soup. I can still remember the day I tried it. But be mindful because it comes out boiling hot! I accidently burnt my tongue, but that did not stop me from eating it.
To conclude, Hungary is a wonderful country filled with people who are willing to let you explore all they have to offer. They enjoy having you in their country and want you to have the time of your life. There is so much to do here and so much to see. I hope one day you will get the oportunity to come to this country and learn more about it.
Bye for now,
-H
