volley-ball-actionOn November 20th, Geiseman Gymnasium played host to an eight-team single elimination tournament  to determine the champion of this year’s intramural volleyball campaign. Matches were played in a best of 3 format beginning at 3:00pm. Winning this year’s tournament, the Cougars with a two-game sweep of the Meerkats (25-16, 25-17). The Cougars, consisting of Ben Fluga, Allievolley-ball-main Back, Petar Arbov, Kathy Gebhardt, Ellen Moussou, Jesus Alfaro, and Kaylynn Anderson, not only knocked off the two-time defending champions in the final, but cruised through the tournament field without losing a single game. The three tournament wins capped off a perfect season for the Cougars who finished with a record of 8-0. The tournament concluded another successful year of intramural volleyball that featured 12 teams and over 80 registered players. Intramurals are a fantastic way to get involved and have clean, competitive fun with fellow students as well as Concordia faculty. In fact, the championship game featured two of CUC’s faculty members in Dr. Christian Hauser (Associate Professor of Music) of the Meerkats and the Cougar’s Kathy Gebhardt, CUC’s Associate Dean of Students. Concordia juniorPetar Arbov, a member of the Cougar’s championship team, had nothing but positive things to say about intramurals at CUC. “Having a team of friends and having friendly competition with other people was a great experience. I encourage anyone who likes to participate in sports, no matter how good they are, to join or make a team.”  Don’t miss out on the fun when volleyball returns to CUC next fall.
