Seafood City: Filipinos rejoice!

Filipino food megastore Seafood City opened its doors on the Chicago Northwest side on September 12, 2016. This follows the opening of Filipino fast food chain Jollibee in Skokie earlier in the summer.

The megastore is a Mecca of sorts when it comes to Filipino food. The market has created great hype in the Filipino community of Chicago, as it is primarily found along the West Coast. With a lack of Filipino grocers in the area, the addition of Seafood City has been welcomed with high hopes.

The grocery store offers everything, well, Filipino. From dry rice sticks and Mama Sita’s seasoning, to fresh fish and octopus too, if you’re in need of a Filipino staple, you’ll find it here.

Seafood City is also known to house fast food joints. This particular location hosts Crispy Town, a venue with a selection of fried foods including okoy, calamari, smelt, and of course, chicken. There is also Grill City, which offers Filipino-style barbecue. Seafood City is expected to host Chicago’s second Jollibee location in the near future.

The location the megastore purchased still holds vacant spots, which locals are hoping means expansion in the near future.

Seafood City is located at 5033 N. Elston Avenue, Chicago, IL 60630. They are open every day from 8AM to 10PM.
