Cougars Coast Past Maranatha
By: Alex Patt
River Forest, IL. Concordia improved their season record to 2-1 with a 42-21 blowout win over Maranatha Baptist University. The Cougars have already passed their record from 2014 (1-8) and are 2-0 at home.
There was not nearly as much drama as week one of the season, in fact quite the opposite. Concordia grabbed an early lead on a Rashad Lofton 88-yard punt return for a touchdown at the 8:25 mark of the first quarter and never looked back. Concordia put up 35 points in the first half and their defense only allowed 13 points in that half.
The second half was uneventful as only 15 points were put up by both teams (Concordia 7, Maranatha 8) and the Cougars cruised to the victory.
Concordia racked up a total 436 offensive yards and no turnovers. QB Rob Granquist was 21-27 with four touchdown passes and 293 yards. Acusio Bivona also got some QB playing time and was 7-15 with 51 yards. Rashad Lofton lead the way in receiving yards with 135 and had a touchdown.
CUC’s next game is the homecoming game next Saturday against rival Concordia Wisconsin.
