You Had Me at Bacon
by Roma Avila
It is official, CUC will see it’s first ever Bacon Fest. The dining hall will pay tribute to our porky little friend by featuring specialty dishes over a three-day period. The event is scheduled to take place starting on Tuesday March 24 leading to a dinnertime grand finale on Thursday. Aside from the crisp smell of bacon overwhelming the KCC, here is what the chefs will be serving up each day…
Tuesday will kick off the fest. Students can head over to the Crossroads Dining Hall during lunchtime and try “the lighter side of bacon”, which will be a salad to compliment the Cracked Pepper And Cumin Crusted BLT. Yes, you read that correctly; it tastes as amazing as it sounds.
Wednesday, expect pizza. It sounds traditional, but not when it is loaded. The dining hall will have a Loaded Baked Potato Pizza, so come hungry. There will also be a Honky Tonk Bomber, which contains nuts, but Elvis loved fried peanut butter and bananas – so this dish will honor the king with a little bit of bacon heaven.
Thursday will be a little different. Plan on a light lunch to save room for the bacon decadence at dinner. The meal will be a swipe plus event, meaning, for an extra $5, you can indulge in some of the following…
- Top Your Own Red Skin Mashed Potatoes
- Bacon Lardons
- Herb Crusted Bacon Wrapped Pork Loin
- Chocolate Covered Bacon
- Maple Glazed Bacon Bites
But the menu doesn’t stop there as the dining hall chef promises to have more items that will leave your belly feeling pleased.
“We wanted to do a bacon fest because we wanted to bring something unique to the campus community. We really wanted to listen to what the students demanded and asked for,” says Jerry Williams, a Concordia senior and marketing intern with Sodexo.
If you love bacon or you are just too curious to pass this up, stop by the Crossroads Dining Hall and try some of the delicious bacon concoctions the Sodexo chefs have created.
