{"id":4701,"date":"2021-02-24T13:32:34","date_gmt":"2021-02-24T19:32:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spectator.cuchicago.edu\/?p=4701"},"modified":"2021-02-24T13:32:34","modified_gmt":"2021-02-24T19:32:34","slug":"student-sleuths-solve-the-case-at-murder-mystery-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spectator.cuchicago.edu\/?p=4701","title":{"rendered":"Student Sleuths Solve the Case at Murder Mystery Night"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In their ongoing effort to engage Concordia University Chicago students who are split between hyflex and online-only schooling, the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement hosted a \u2018Murder Mystery\u2019 event via Zoom on February 9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similar to a traditional in-person murder mystery dinner, the participants all received roles to play. Each of us tried to investigate the other in order to identify the culprit in the murder of Delroy DeBubbles, the owner of the DeBubbles wine distillery. In my case, I played Ivan Gris, a marketing representative for the DeBubbles wine distillery.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were also other characters: the widowed Babette\u2019s sister Kira Anti, as played by CUC freshman Juliette Lawson, the DeBubbles\u2019 sommelier Dee Canting played by sophomore Hayley Wickesberg (sophomore), and heir to Delroy\u2019s fortune, Destin DeBubbles by senior Terry Harris.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ashley Hernandez, a graduate student with OSLI, hosted the event, serving as the inspector or narrator.When needed, Hernandez also played Babette DeBubbles, the murdered man\u2019s wife.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe really want to make sure the students have fun, and it\u2019s not all work, work, work,\u201d said Hernandez.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants found themselves deeply enthralled by their roles. We all had to put on various accents, from deep French to light Southern drawls. We worked together and interrogated each other ruthlessly until the final round the killer was revealed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis was like a dream come true,\u201d said Harris. \u201cIt was like a French <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scooby-Doo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Much like an episode of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scooby-Doo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we were diving into all kinds of twists and turns, trying to unmask the killer. Everyone\u2019s alibis seemed to line up, but\u00a0 each suspect also seemed to have an equal motive to take Delroy out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We finally cornered her into a confession \u2013 it\u2019d been Delroy\u2019s sister Kira Anti the whole time! When Delroy wouldn\u2019t put her in the will, she took him out with cyanide.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We were taken a little aback.\u00a0 Lawson played innocent so well the whole game that it didn\u2019t seem right at first, but she went on to explain how and why her character did it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI decided to take matters into my own hands,\u201d said Lawson as Kira. .
