On Wednesday, October 2nd, Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men\u2019s soccer team suffered a shutout loss. It was a gloomy day, cloudy and 60 degree weather which made the loss even more detrimental. The presence of fans in the bleachers was barely felt, and somehow the little that was there was gone by the end of the first half. The Cougars faced the Benedictine University Eagles, which made the Cougars look weak. The loss against the Eagles was the third loss in a row, having lost the two previous games as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first half started off slow but ignited some hope when an attempt at making a goal happened at the 24-minute mark. Although it was not a bad shot, it was blocked by Benedictine University\u2019s goalkeeper which was probably the only time the Cougars had a shot at scoring. Two minutes later, the Eagles scored the first goal of the game. It was one goal; Cougars could have tied it up, right? (Wrong.) The Benedictine Eagles scored the second goal of the game with six minutes left to play in the first half. Reaching them felt kind of impossible with the score being 2-0 after the first half. The Cougars went into intermission with the challenge of tying the game and most importantly, winning the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cougars wanted to prevent a third loss in the row, but the hunger for the win was not there. Benedictine University did not ease up in the second half and played harder than the first half. Just like any team whose score leads the game; their job was to keep scoring but also prevent the opponents from scoring. The Eagles went on to score their third goal with 30 minutes left of the game. Trying to barely score one, 30 minutes was not enough time for the Cougars to reach them nor score at all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe it is the weather change, or the communication was not there, but the Cougars have to bounce back to prevent a fourth loss. Their next game will be on Saturday, October 5th at 2:00 p.m. Their opponents will be the Lakeland University Muskies in which they have a 6-7 record. Let\u2019s hope the record evens up to 7-7.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
