There are many clubs and activities on campus that students participate in. Whether it’s CAB (Campus Activities Board), BSU (Black Student Union), The Spectator, LSU (Latino Student Union) or any other club, there is a wide variety of options students can pick and choose which clubs to join.

Recently, a new club has opened up on campus, that club is,
the Latino/a Book Club. This club represents the learning and logical thinking
of Latino/a culture through poems, short stories, and open discussions. The
club was started by Dr. Karen Cruz, who specializes in American Literature and
is the Assistant Professor in the English department, and by CUC students, Diana
Rodriguez and Viviana Mendoza, who are both co-presidents of the club.

Co-president, Diana Rodriguez, mentioned, “We hope to gain
more representation for students of color from this club. It’s important that
they feel that they’re represented in a space like CUC. We want this book club
to be a space where anyone is welcome to join in order to learn about different
cultures and what they each have to offer.”

The first meeting was held this past Thursday on October 3rd on the second level of Klinck Memorial Library. The club meets twice a semester, and the next meeting will be held on Friday, November 8th. If students, faculty, or staff have any questions, they can contact Diana Rodriguez at crf_rodrigdd@cuchicago.edu.

Written by Arius Gatson Concordia University Chicago (CUC) is a place for learning, a place to create friends, and a place for students to get involved on campus.
