RIVER FOREST-The Cougars football team traveled to Olivet, Michigan on a cold and rainy Saturday morning to take on the Olivet College Comets. The Comets\u00a0are part of\u00a0the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association conference where their overall record was 4-4 coming into this game. The last time these two teams met, the Cougars got the win in 2009. The Comets got their payback on November 9th.<\/p>\n
The Comets got the ball first and got it down in the redzone, which is the area from where the 20 yard line is to where the goal line is. The Cougars defense held the Comet offense for four straight plays and the Cougars looked to capitalize on their first possession. The Cougars drove the ball down the field after runs of 20 and 19 yards by Sophomore running back Jakari Cammon. However, the Cougars let up a sack where the defensive lineman tackles the quarterback on a passing play, which forced them to punt the ball. The Comets quickly scored in their next drive on a pass.<\/p>\n
The Comets were looking as if they were going to score again until Concordia Freshman Travone Petty intercepted the opposing quarterback’s pass which gave the Cougars the ball with a chance to score before halftime. Unable to move the ball, the Comets got the ball and scared on an 18 yard pass to put the Comets up 14-0 at halftime.<\/p>\n
The Cougars were looking to start a comeback as they elected to receive the ball at halftime. The Comets defense held firm giving the ball back to their offense which then scored on an 80 yard drive. The Comets scored a total of 13 unanswered points in the third quarter.<\/p>\n
With the game already in hand, the Cougars didn’t score their first points until 7:08 left in the fourth quarter. A fumble caused by Freshman Ramon Guerroro gave Senior Mike Bailey the chance to scoop it up and he ran into the endzone for the score. This ended the scoring for the day as the Cougars lost 33-7.<\/p>\n
The Cougars will look to end the season on a good note with their last game at home against Rockford with a noon kickoff on November 15th.<\/p>\n
