RIVER FOREST- Thursday, November 6th<\/sup> marked the second annual CUC Riff Off. A Riff Off is when a group of people sing songs, a cappella, to different categories. The Riff Off was originated in the movie “Pitch Perfect.”<\/p>\n The Cougar Den was filled with Concordia students ready to enjoy the music that was about to be sung. Hosts Madeline Marth, Freshmen, and Hailey Lindblom, Sophomore, got the crowd excited by asking if they were ready for the show. The two hosts also explained the rules for the night and introduced the different groups who participated. The groups who decided to join in on the fun were The Socca Girls, which was a group of all soccer girl players; The Marooners, a group consisted of male and females; Sheyonc\u00e9, a combination of the names Shakira and Beyonc\u00e9 and The Clique, which was the women\u2019s volleyball team. Each group brought their own style to the songs they performed.<\/p>\n As the Riff Off kicked off, the first category were songs by Beyonc\u00e9. The Clique charged in ready to go and sang their hearts out. The crowd was lively with loud cheers and clapping. Next jumped in The Socca Girls with another Queen B song. As the Beyonc\u00e9 round ended it was clear that The Clique was in the lead.<\/p>\n As the night was ending there were three groups that stood a chance at becoming the new CUC Riff Off champions. The Clique, The Socca Girls, and Sheyonc\u00e9. The final bonus round would be the game breaker for all three groups. Although Sheyonc\u00e9 was a few hundred points behind they could win it all if they dominated the final round. As Judge Jade Nichols pulled the final category out of the bucket, she yelled Country music and Sheyonc\u00e9 took off.<\/p>\n It was within minutes that the group took over the top spot and won it all. Sheyonc\u00e9 was very excited and said, \u201ceven when you are in last place you can always strive for first.\u201d<\/p>\n CAB, who sponsored the Riff Off, was very pleased with the outcome and is excited to have another one when the time comes.
